How strange is the music business getting? Now Whole Foods is hosting musical events?Anyway, thanks to our friend Andy Schwartz, check this out:
This weekend, as part of something called the "Gibson/Baldwin Jazz Festival" (as in Gibson Guitars and Baldwin Pianos), multi-instrumental jazz great Yusef Lateef will appear at the Whole Foods store on East Houston Street @ Bowery.
Beginning at 2:00pm, Dr. Lateef will be signing copies of his new book, The Gentle Giant: The Autobiography of Yusef Lateef. At 3:00pm, trumpeter Ted Curson and the Spirit of Life Ensemble will perform with Yusef as their special guest.
The Gibson/Baldwin Jazz Festival is free and open to the public.
On Oct. 9, 2007, Yusef Lateef celebrated his 87th birthday. See:
